Welcome

For the Survival of Liberty: Great Presidential Decisions focuses on Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Monroe, Lincoln, Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt as critical builders of American liberty. Elton Klibanoff shows how the life experience, character, and vision of these men resulted in six decisions that have been vital to liberty, both at home and abroad.  These decisions established a strong federal government, dedicated to the general welfare and to equal opportunity.  They also created an internationalist foreign policy that has been essential to liberty's survival.

The book is an extensively researched narrative of dramatic decisions and a keen analysis of the motivations of great men. It shows how political leaders sometimes have to deviate from previously held positions when necessary for the good of the country, and how important it is for leaders to understand the country’s history and have clear goals for its future. The story brings to prominence Presidential advisors who made essential contributions to great decisions of great Presidents, particularly Alexander Hamilton, John Quincy Adams, Frances Perkins and Harry Hopkins.
